Red/Green Staining on Fixtures and Pipes
Blue-green stains on your faucets and tubs are usually caused by tap water that’s slightly acidic (low-pH) or corrosive. You may also see blue laundry spots and drinking water may be bitter.

When low-pH water flows through copper pipes, it can cause copper (and lead) to leach into your water, adding hazzards to your drinking water. Over time as the copper pipe corrodes small pinhole leaks can occur. These leaks will often happen behind wall and will not be detected until wet, moldy staining begins to bleed through drywall.
These elevated levels of copper can mix with other minerals consistent with hard water to create multi-colored scale buildup. Not only can you see the typical white scale, but often blue or green residue will form on your faucet as well.
Green staining on the outside of the copper pipe does not mean your water is acidic, this is often just solder flux that was used during installation that was not fully wiped off.
